Design Brief
The challenge of this project was to create a book that builds on typographic principles of syntax and semantics. The project explores the relationship between type and image, as well as experimentation with expressive approaches to typography and lettering. The focus on the project is a multi-page/multi-surface document and the interaction between two texts: a macro and micro text.
Solution
For this project, I chose to base it off Lewis Carroll's, The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland. The macro text consist of an article that dissects the novel. The article discusses the events in the story and how they correlate with the steps in a child's growth and progression through childhood and adolescence. The micro text consist of quotes taken from the novel. For the images, I created collages that include images from the Disney movie, Alice in Wonderland. As for the composition, I decided to make text go in different positioning since the novel has many directions.

Collages
For the imagery of this book, I decided to create surreal collages. I gathered images from the Disney movie, Alice in Wonderland, magazines, and digital images. I printed, hand cut, and assembled the collages by hand.
Beginning Composition
For the beginning composition, I worked on the first chapter until I finalized a system. I wanted to play around with various compositions. I played with hierarchy, text between text, and color blocking.
